Cardamom is a perennial herbaceous plant. Its trunk is under the ground.
Cardamom is mainly of two types – big cardamom and small cardamom. Large cardamom is copper in color when dry. This fruit is used as cardamom. And the small cardamom fruit is light brown in color when artificially heat dried. When picked from the tree, only those cardamom fruits that are almost ripe are selected. Fully ripe fruits are not taken. Because ripe fruits are prone to cracking during drying.
Used as a spice in cooking
Cardamom is used to add flavor and aroma to various curries. Cardamom is also used in pies and other sweet dishes.
